I hope you will join me on a wild ride through the world of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy. While psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy has only recently begun to gain ground as a new method of treatment, much of the research isn't new. As early as the 1940s and going into the 1950s and 60s, psychedelics became a popular topic, and researchers excited to see how they could help benefit mental health began a slew of studies.
Unfortunately, in 1970, psychedelics were deemed as "bad" and of no use or benefit and ended up as part of the United States Substances Act and placed in the most restrictive section as a Schedule One drug. The Substances Act would ultimately end all clinical studies on the possible benefits and uses for psychedelics in mental health until about 1990. During the early 90s and 2000s, research would pick back up. What Psychologists and researchers would discover is the truth that psychedelics can heal. Because of this new research, psychedelics have been able to make a comeback.
They are now being used to treat issues like pain, depression, anxiety, Ptsd, C-Ptsd, and complex trauma. At the moment, only Ketamine has approval for use in Therapy. However, Psilocybin and some other varieties of psychedelics are gaining ground and, hopefully, will become options in the future to treat these conditions.
I hope you will join me on an adventure through healing complex trauma and perhaps find solace in the fact that you are not alone in this world and that there is help and hope out there for everyone.
